Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The submission is original, has not been previously published, and is not currently under consideration by another journal. Any related manuscripts or prior versions have been disclosed to the Editor.

The submission file must be prepared in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or LaTeX format.

- The manuscript follows the formatting and structural requirements specified in the JRUSD Author Guidelines and official manuscript template.
Research Articles
Original Research Articles within the journal’s aims and scope undergo initial editorial screening and, if suitable for further consideration, double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers.

Review Article
Review Articles provide critical, systematic, or integrative assessments of established or emerging topics relevant to the scope of JRUSD. Submissions should synthesize and evaluate existing scholarship, identify important debates or knowledge gaps, and provide clear scholarly insights or directions for future research. Review Articles are subject to the journal’s standard double-blind peer-review process.

Technical Papers
Technical Papers present original and rigorous research that advances knowledge, methods, tools, or analytical approaches in urban planning, urban design, resilient urbanism, sustainability, and the built environment. Submissions may address urban analytics, spatial analysis, planning methodologies, environmental performance, climate adaptation, mobility, land-use systems, landscape and ecological planning, or related interdisciplinary topics.
Manuscripts should clearly define the research problem, situate the study within relevant literature, explain the methodology and data, present original findings, and discuss their implications for urban planning, design, policy, or practice. Methodological transparency, analytical rigor, and the contribution of the research to current urban challenges should be clearly demonstrated.
Technical Papers are normally subject to double-blind peer review.

Case Studies
Case Studies present detailed examinations of real-world urban planning, design, sustainability, or resilience initiatives. They may focus on cities, neighborhoods, public spaces, infrastructure, landscapes, communities, redevelopment projects, environmental interventions, or planning and design processes.
Submissions should explain the local context and problem, describe the planning or design approach, document implementation or observed outcomes, and critically assess lessons learned. Authors should go beyond project description by identifying the broader significance, limitations, and potential transferability of the case to other contexts.
Case Studies should demonstrate how practical experience contributes to knowledge in resilient urbanism and sustainable design and are normally subject to double-blind peer review.

Critical Reviews
Critical Reviews provide rigorous synthesis and critical assessment of established or emerging areas of scholarship related to resilient urbanism, sustainable design, urban planning, urban design, environmental systems, and the built environment.
Reviews should do more than summarize previous studies. Authors are expected to identify major concepts, theoretical perspectives, methodological developments, areas of agreement or disagreement, research gaps, and future directions. Systematic, scoping, bibliometric, and theoretically informed critical reviews are welcome when appropriate to the research question.
Where systematic search or selection methods are used, authors should clearly describe the databases, search criteria, screening procedures, and analytical framework. Critical Reviews are normally subject to double-blind peer review.

Invited Perspectives
Invited Perspectives provide concise, forward-looking contributions from recognized scholars, practitioners, policymakers, designers, and other experts working on contemporary issues in resilient urbanism and sustainable design.
Contributions may address emerging challenges, new conceptual directions, major debates, lessons from professional or research experience, policy implications, or future priorities for urban planning and design. Authors are encouraged to present a clear argument or viewpoint supported by relevant evidence and scholarship while maintaining an accessible and engaging style.
Invited Perspectives are intended to stimulate scholarly and professional discussion rather than present a conventional full-length research study. Contributions are normally commissioned by the Editors and are subject to editorial review. External peer review may be requested at the Editors' discretion.

Privacy Statement
The Journal of Resilient Urbanism & Sustainable Design (JRUSD; eISSN 3067-6029) respects the privacy of authors, reviewers, editors, readers, and other users of its website and publishing services. Personal data collected by JRUSD are used only for legitimate journal operations, editorial management, peer review, publication, communication, digital preservation, and maintenance of the scholarly record. Such information is handled responsibly and confidentially.
- Data collected: JRUSD may collect personal information such as name, affiliation, email address, ORCID iD (if provided), and submission- or review-related metadata necessary for managing manuscripts and peer review.
- Purpose of use: Personal data are used to (i) process submissions, (ii) administer peer review, including double-blind review workflows, (iii) communicate editorial decisions and publication updates, (iv) manage author and reviewer accounts, and (v) maintain the integrity and traceability of the scholarly record.
- Confidentiality: Manuscripts, peer-review reports, and editorial correspondence are treated as confidential. Personal data and manuscript-related records are accessible only to authorized editorial staff and, where relevant, to assigned editors and reviewers.
- Sharing with third parties: JRUSD does not sell, rent, or trade personal data. Information is not shared with third parties except where required for essential journal services, such as website hosting or email delivery, or when required by law. Any service providers engaged by JRUSD are expected to handle data securely and only for the intended purpose.
- Emails and notifications: JRUSD may send emails related to submissions, review invitations, editorial decisions, publication notices, and journal administration. Users may update their communication preferences where applicable.
- Data security: JRUSD applies reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or disclosure. However, no internet-based system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
- Data retention: JRUSD retains personal data and editorial records only for as long as necessary to fulfill editorial, legal, and scholarly record-keeping requirements, including maintaining the integrity of published content and peer-review history.
- User rights: Users may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal data, subject to reasonable limits and the journal’s obligations to preserve the scholarly record, including published articles and essential editorial records. Requests should be submitted to the Journal Administration.
- Policy updates: JRUSD may revise this Privacy Statement when necessary to reflect changes in its publishing services, website infrastructure, editorial procedures, or applicable requirements. The current version will be published on the journal website.
- Contact: JRUSD is an independently operated, non-commercial, online scholarly journal published in the United States under the publishing name Journal of Resilient Urbanism & Sustainable Design. JRUSD is not currently incorporated as a separate legal entity and is not published by an external commercial, institutional, university, or scholarly-society publisher.
The journal’s official correspondence location is in Sherwood Forest, Los Angeles, California, United States. Day-to-day editorial and administrative activities are coordinated from Lincoln, Nebraska, United States.
