Professor Phuong Nguyen

Prof. Nguyen is a nationally and internationally recognised scholar in public finance and public policy. At the University of Iowa, he currently serves as Director of Graduate Studies and Associate Director of the School of Planning and Public Affairs, where he leads academic programmes, supervises research, and provides strategic vision for the next generation of planners and policy experts.

His expertise encompasses local government finance, tax policies, infrastructure investment, and social service delivery, with over 50 scholarly publications and multiple prestigious awards, including the Best Paper Award from the Midwest Public Affairs Conference (2022) and the Curriculum Innovation Award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning and Lincoln Institute of Land Policy (2018).

The mission of JRUSD is to promote scholarship and dialogue in resilient urbanism and sustainable design. Prof. Nguyen’s extensive research on fiscal tools, urban infrastructure funding, and policy innovation provides an essential perspective that directly complements our commitment to building more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable cities.
